Plateau: definition

Blog · Updated September 26, 2026 · By the team building Embera

Short answer

A plateau is a period when your weight trend stays flat over several weeks. A few days without change is usually normal day-to-day noise from water, digestion or your cycle, not a plateau.

On any weight journey, the scale moves in steps and waves rather than a straight line. A plateau is best judged on a trend over several weeks, weighing the same way each time, not on a few days.

If your trend has been flat for a while, bring your weight, doses and notes to your prescriber rather than changing your dose or cutting food on your own.
