What is the best day of the week to take your GLP-1 shot?

Blog · Updated September 26, 2026 · By the team building Embera

Short answer

There is no medically best day: the prescribing information lets you take a weekly GLP-1 on any day, at any time, with or without food. What the day changes is how your week lines up with your medication level, which is highest a day or two after the shot and lowest the day before the next one. Pick a day you can stick to, and ask your prescriber before switching.

People ask this all the time, and the honest answer is that the best day is the one that fits your week. Here is what actually changes when you pick one.

What the label says

The prescribing information for Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound and Mounjaro says the same thing in slightly different words: take it once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without meals. No day is medically better than another.

What the shot day changes

Your medication level is not flat through the week. It peaks a day or two after the shot and is lowest the day before the next one. So your shot day decides which days of your week sit near the peak and which sit at the low point.

For example, with a Monday shot, the lowest days are Saturday and Sunday. With a Thursday shot, the weekend sits closer to the peak.

What people weigh when choosing

None of these is a rule. They are trade-offs, and your answer is personal.

Changing your shot day

If your current day does not work, the labels allow a change with a minimum gap between two doses:

Medication Minimum time between two doses when changing day
Wegovy, Ozempic (semaglutide) 2 days (48 hours)
Zepbound, Mounjaro (tirzepatide) 3 days (72 hours)

Ask your prescriber or pharmacist before you switch, especially if you are also changing dose.

Try it with your own week

The free shot day planner lets you mark the days that matter to you (weekends, busy work days, dinners out) and shows how every possible shot day lines up with your estimated level on those days. It can also add a weekly reminder to your calendar.

Questions

Can I take my GLP-1 shot at any time of day?

Yes. The prescribing information for Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound and Mounjaro says the weekly shot can be taken at any time of day, with or without meals, on the same day each week.

Can I change my shot day?

The labels allow it with a minimum gap between two doses: at least 2 days (48 hours) for Wegovy and Ozempic, at least 3 days (72 hours) for Zepbound and Mounjaro. Check with your prescriber or pharmacist before you switch.

Is a weekend shot a good idea?

Some people like a weekend shot because they are at home if the first day or two feel off. Others prefer the weekend to fall near their peak. Both are personal choices, and the shot day planner shows how each option lines up with your week.
